So I finally joined the rest of the (un)civilized world and made a facebook page. I'll still look in on here every so often (like I was posting much), but feel free to drop a note here if you wanna add me on there too ;) Comments are screened if you wanna put info without fear of others seeing it.
See ya 'round =)

|...I don't wanna go....
For those that follow Doctor Who, BBC America has been showing the last of the 'specials', surprisingly not long after they aired originally in the UK. (Of course, I didn't wait for BBCA to air it in order to see it, but that's besides the point)
Anyways... the last two specials in particular were fairly strong. Some explanations of the past; a tease and a taste perhaps more than a full-on 'what really happened', and a really good storyline to go with. Totally didn't see the big reveal coming (and if you say you did, I won't believe you). I liked the proper goodbyes he made (and no, I don't care one bit that he broke his own 'rules' and nipped back to see Rose)... and the music for the regeneration was spot on. Perhaps a bit emo, but then so was he....
Still, after 46+ years, it's still kicking around.... something to look forward to later in the Spring.

|Dear Mother Nature,
...can we please have one morning where I do not have to clear off my car?
Kthxbye. Current Mood: cold

Yea, it's that time again, when I brush off months of dust from the journal... just to report that there isn't really a whole lot new going on. =P I'm not even sure if my iPhone app to post still works (I shall investigate). In the meanwhile, some bulletpoints of an update, since I'm still half-asleep:
- Work: There's something to be said for working about 30 hours less, per week, than I did under the Arches and still bringing home about the same amount of coin. They, of course, are impressed with my work ethic -- I even got a manager's spotlight recognition from one of the WNY banks higher-ups for everything over the past few months. I have yet to decide what to convert my award into (the $25 Best Buy card does seem shiny)...
- Home: The place almost looks brand new, as a slew of cleaning efforts of late make it look hospitable and liveable. No, it was not bad enough that y'all had to consider calling the folks from Hoarders for me, but there was clearly some... clutter. Still, I feel like I can host friends over, which is good
- Social: Joining the IGMC was one of the best things I've ever decided. They're a fun bunch, I finally have an outlet for my music, and increasing one's social circles (theoretically) increases the odds of actually meeting someone to date. Which is still clearly a work in progress. =P Still, shifting the routine once in a while is a good thing.
- Money: Sadly, this is what is causing my world to stop tilting on its axis, not go 'round... Every time I make some headway into resolving debt or so on, something happens to knock me back two steps (in particular, the money pit that is my car. I've seriously contemplated taking the damn thing off the road) Thankfully, overtime at the bank has meant I haven't needed to get a 2nd job, but it still may come down to it -- bankruptcy is on the radar, but not a seriously considered option at this time.
- Wii: The console is making a resurgance, as folks around here are finally starting to get one (or even two, in one unfortunate holiday miscommunication). My wii code is 3008 9283 7267 0334 -- feel free to add me on. Oh, for those with Mario Kart, my license is 2191-8747-2350. The computer cheats, so send me some ghosts to race! =)
That's enough for now... I need to decide if I want to walk to the bank or do some work on the treadmill.... exercise, new year, blahblahblah...

(sidenote: I totally need a bowling userpic)
So the league is off and running through its third week, which seems somewhat miraculous from what the feeling was about 2 weeks and a day (ie. right before we started). It's been fun, even though we're down to 3-person teams... but the people that are there want to be there and it's good.
What's also good is this:
So we didn't take any points, but that would be my 4th best game, and highest series ever (181 - 219 - 239 - 639).
This game's fun when it actually goes to plan!

|One year (and a day)
So this weekend marked the anniversary of my freedom from the Arches. I had a minor celebration by enjoying some caramel frapp goodness. Suffice to say, I'm in a better place these days than I was 366 days ago... I have a social life (as opposed to being married to my job), I have FAR less stress in my new job while taking home close to the same amount of money, I've thoroughly enjoyed the fact that I can sport a goatee...
I still reflect with some irony how my occupational experience sort of mirrored the economy as a whole -- crashing as i quit my job, hope being restored slightly as I get work as Obama takes office, further glimmers of hope and recovery as my job is made permanent... But even if I knew the market would crash and there would be such financial strife, I don't know that it would have made a difference in my leaving. It was simply just time. That being said, next time, I'll have a plan in place =P
As for the Arches, I've yet to see/meet my replacement. But if you go to my old store, and you see an older gentleman behind the counter... leave. Immediately. I've heard such horror stories about how this man ignores food safety and common sense (yes, those two words) in order to try and save on food cost. My old crew are powerless to do much, as their attempts to inform the office are met with "you're just out to get him". If it weren't true, it might almost be libelous to list such charges here... and lord knows how much it amuses me to be threatened with legal action over something I post. I should dig up that post and reminisce...
I still go down and visit the folks, and they all beg for me to come back... not happening =P I'm amazed that they've stuck through it this last year, though, as I demonstrated, leaving a job without having another to go to isn't the best way to go. I do miss eating for free... but if the food was one of the few positive aspects of the job... buh-bye!
Now it's time to get ready for some quality time with TMP ... 11-7 isn't as bad as it used to be =)

I neglected to post over the weekend, i finally got in touch with our esteemed league president. Of course, I called him, on Sunday. That would be when he informed me that he (and his team) were not returning this year. ONE WEEK BEFORE LEAGUE STARTS. Sure, president is mostly titular and doesn't really involve any work, but still... as someone that's supposed to help bring the league together, you don't pull this shit... well, actually, i guess some do.
3-man teams are looking more likely now, I have no idea...

|Bwahahaha *points and laughs*
So, once upon a time, I was an overworked and underpaid minion of the Arches. While I do miss some of the goings-on of As the Burger Flips
, it's clear to any and all that I am far happier and healthier (albeit poorer).
After I quit and was denied unemployment (and really, rightfully so), I eventually wound my way to my current employment. There was a gap between placements from the temp agency, and I filed for unemployment for those 9 days. Red tape later, I'm still fighting for that unemployment, because bureaucracy is evil. However, a new claim was finally placed a week and a half ago, and hopefully the wheels are turning and that'll be a done deal.
So imagine my initial amusement when I get a letter in the mail from the Arches main office today.
We currently have work available for you at Arches-on-the-Hill. Please contact me
at #. Sincerely, ....etc."
First, sincerely? Really? Seriously? Puhleeze.
Second, after my initial amusement wore off, it dawned on me... of course, they're "offering" me work so, when my unemployment stuff goes around, they can say "HA! HE WAS OFFERED WORK AND DIDN'T TAKE IT!" Classy. Of course, the fucktards don't already realize I'm gainfully (and relatively happily) employed.
I feel like calling her tomorrow and calling her bluff, but I don't know if I can do it with a straight face. I also feel like calling and laughing at them. Either way, the Department of Labor is already enough of a nuisance without the Arches trying to cause more mischief.

(The conversation went something like:
Us: Yea, we could hear you laughing all the way from the entrance.fabunobo
: What? *innocent face* I'm a quiet social butterfly!
Me: Um, more like... *points at picture*
It was funny then, at least. =P
Ok, I am totally not walking to/from work tomorrow. I did it the last two days, and I'm done for the week. I'll be good and use the treamill in the morning. (really!)

|Why Rachel Maddow is awesome
from her show on 7/28/09:
"In the meantime, we're all left to sort out the deeply confusing nature of what it means to be called a tea-bagging queen by Lou Dobbs... a tea-bagging queen
? What kind of queen would that be, exactly? And can a female person be
that kind of queen? Anyway...." Current Mood: amused

Overall, a great weekend, and I think everyone had a great time... some high (and low) points, from my perspective...
Good: The general tent experience was not as bad for the back as I feared.
Bad: Smirnoff is still not my friend.
Ugly: Smirnoff REALLY didn't like me the next morning, either.
Good: finally being able to take part of a weekend like this
Bad: it didn't last long enough
Ugly: my brain not functioning well at work this
, without whom a lot of this weekend would not have worked out well for me
Bad: the morning spat on the porch, regardless of who was in the wrong
Ugly: the fact that I still struggle with self-image issues, even in an environment like that.
Good: the fact that I was able to overcome them a bit, and at least exchange digits with someone. :-P
So, overall, good. Pics to follow at some point ... Current Mood: exhausted

K, this is nuts. I got to the movies a few minutes ago... The first 3 theaters ate already sold out, the line goes from the ticketbooth all the way to gertrude hawk, and they're not open for a chocolate fix. Here's hoping I at least get a decent seat...

I must make a note of this:
fabunobo exercised restraint.
It was a brief moment, and now he has gone back to discussing his baby-wiped ass. But it was special while it lasted.
